Artist statement

I studied at the National Art School, Sydney for a Diploma of Fine Arts at the age of 16. An early marriage, children and living on a property in central NSW put painting on hold as I got on with raising my family and helping my husband on the land. In the 80s I studied ceramics for three years and then returned to study fine arts part-time over four years at Dubbo Tafe, gaining a Certificate in Art in 1988 and commencing selling work through galleries the same year. In the 90’s I attended USQ McGregor school, Toowoomba, to work firstly with printmaker Wim de Vos and then over a four year period with master printmaker Basil Hall.

A practicing full-time painter/printmaker since 1990, I have worked mainly from my studio on the family property, and am now living and working from my studio in Leura, NSW. My work has been shown at Toowoomba Regional Gallery QLD, Lismore Reginal Gallery, Dubbo Regional Gallery, Bever Galleries Canberra, the first class lounge of Sydney International Airport (organised by Valerie Cohen Fine Art, Paddington), Leura Village Gallery, and Art and Frame Double Bay.

I travel overseas on work-related trips as often as possible and in 1996, was fortunate enough to live and work at the Cite International Des Arts, Paris, and in 2002, I was guest of the Northern Territory Craft Council based in Alice Springs as Artist-in-Residence. These experiences have left a lasting impression on my work.
