I am endlessly fascinated by the rich variety of Spring’s flowers. One of my deepest joys comes from the quiet rhythm of my garden throughout all the seasons in the Blue Mountains; each season capturing a sense of time.

What draws me to the spring bulbs is their extraordinary diversity. There is a captivating dialogue between the tiny intense clusters of the vivid blue grape hyacinths and the fully opened petals of oversized tulips, between the delicate white daffodils and the sculptural elegance of magnolias. Some blooms are soft and subtle in pale pinks and creams, while others burst with vibrant orange, deep amethyst, and striking scarlet.

The flowers in this exhibition were all grown at home. What compels me is the extraordinary dance of light that floods my kitchen table – from strong dramatic beams that cast long architectural shadows, to the most delicate afternoon light. For me, the light transforms these familiar vessels and blooms into something magical.

Rendered in watercolour pencils on smooth Arches paper, these works balance the immediacy of drawing with the fluidity of painting. The archival cotton paper provides a luminous, durable ground, allowing layers of pigment to be built up, dissolved and layered again in a play of detail and light.
